Building
Project
Now
Underway
July 24,
2008
Using
the
final
set of
engineered
and
state
approved
architectural
drawings
and
building
plans,
all of
the
approvals
from
state,
county
and
local
officials
and
governing
bodies
has been
obtained
along
with the
necessary
building
permits.
That
means
that
construction
is
cleared
to
start!
Brick
colors
and
patterns
have
been
selected
and will
soon be
on their
way to
the job
site As
you can
see from
the
latest
rendering
above
(click

see and
even

version),
the
project
has
really
began to
take
shape!
The
general
contractor
along
with the
Wisconsin
EMS
Association
executive
director
continue
to work
with the
HVAC
contractor
to
identify
the
various
heating
and
cooling
zones
throughout
the
building.
The next
order of
business
includes
going
back to
the
various
sub
contractors
that
originally
bid on
the
project
to have
them
update
and firm
up their
quotes
based on
the
final,
engineered
and
state
approved
plans.
WEMSA
continues
to use
the
sluggish
building
market
to its
advantage
by
continuing
to
foster
competition
within
the
bidding
arena
for sub
contractors.
Even
with
these
items
still
needing
completion,
the
project
is still
moving
forward
by
starting
with
excavation
and
pouring
the
foundation.
We'll
continue
to
provide
updates
in the
new
office
building
section

planned to help address
Medicare Changes For
Signature Requirements
July 24, 2008
With the latest round of
changes from Medicare
and CMS (See Hot
Sheet 08-011) EMS
providers and especially
ambulance services are
again finding themselves
in need of additional
information. The
requirement to obtain a
signature from the
patient or other
authorized person first
went into place January
1, 2008. A sample form
was provided by the
Wisconsin EMS
Association to all
Service and Corporate
members. WEMSA will
again soon provide an
updated form though the
Resource Kit product. To
learn more of the
details, providers may
want to participate in a
90 minute webinar with
national EMS Lawyer Doug
Wolfberg on Tuesday,
August 5, 2008. As is
the case with most
educational
opportunities sponsored
by the Wisconsin EMS
Association, members
receive a $10 discount
on the seminar.
Registration for the
webinar is simple and
can be completed
on-line. For additional

Event Planned To
Celebrate The Life and
Times of Mark Coyne
July 16, 2008
According to his
sisters, Mark Coyne
always said that if
anything ever happened
to him, they were to
make sure that a big
party was held with all
of his friends.
Unfortunately, something
did happen to Mark along
with two of his
co-workers when their UW
Medflight helicopter
crash shortly after
leaving the LaCross
airport. The Coyne
family wants to invite
anyone and everyone who
knew Mark to help
celebrate his life on
Saturday, August 9 for a
pig roast. The party
will take place at the
Waunakee Airpark Commons
Area, on Division Street
in Waunakee. Bring along
a lawn chair and perhaps
some snacks or a desert
and be sure to wear your
best Jimmy Buffet
attire! Get more
information from the
official invitation
flyer, or call the Coyne
family at 608-220-2266
for more information.
The family is hoping for
a large turnout so
please help to pass the
word along.

State EMS Office
Releases Strategic Plan
Draft
June 16, 2008
The state EMS office in
Madison has released a
draft of their strategic
planning document for
2008 and beyond The
document comes following
a large meeting of
stakeholders who
participated in the
process several months
ago. State EMS Office
officials then set out
to create a
comprehensive document
to address the large
number of elements
identified during the
meeting. The draft
document is slightly
more than 100 pages in
length, including an
executive summary that
helps to set the stage
for the full document.
The EMS Office hopes to
conduct a telephone
conference call with
stakeholders in about a
month to continue work
on the draft. Watch for
complete details on the
plan in a future edition
of the Hot Sheets.
