Identifying Veterans, Military Service Issues, and Veterans in Mental Health Crisis

 

Presented by:
     Department of Veterans Affairs Law Enforcement training Center (LETC) in a coordinated effort with the Office of Security & Law Enforcement and Veterans Health         Administration

Course Content & Learning Objectives:
     This training provides information about specific issues related to combat veterans, such as PTSD and challenges that Veterans face upon reintegration into society consequent to their return from deployment(s).  It is specifically directed towards front line contact with first responders.  Participants will learn the warning signs of suicide and strategies for prevention, including unique considerations when responding to a person in mental health crisis.  Deescalation tips and real life scenarios will also be presented.  The training will also provide information on resources available for Veterans through the VA Hospital and community partners.  The course is taught by Veterans and will be a good opportunity to reach out to fellow Veterans in the community.
